Exciting!

We are finally starting our fundraising campaigns. We have signed on with a wonderful company called Stay Classy who is helping us develop our various campaigns and managing our donations.
And we are in the beginning stages of our first Annual Bi-Coastal Dog-a-thon.
What's a Dog-a-thon? It's a walk-a-thon with dogs.
New York's route is going to be on the Hudson and the AZ event is going to be around the lake in Fountain Hills.
Stay tuned for more info!

Happy Birthday!

Quantum Hugs is one year old today. I purposely initiated the paperwork on this date so that Quantum Hugs will always share its birthday with John. Today would have been his 69th birthday. I know he is proud of the work we are doing.

Soldier's Best Friend

Jim Sims and I spent a very enjoyable lunch last Tuesday with John Burnham, DVM, the President and Founder of Soldier's Best Friend.
He explained the submission process, the selection process, the training process, and all the details about follow-up. John was also quite eager to hear about us and Quantum Hugs and how we could make this work for both of our organizations. He thought our organization was great and he was quite pleased to hear we wanted to sponsor a dog.
By the time we were finished we knew we had a made a new friend and this was going to be a mutually helpful friendship.
They are going to put a link to us on their web site and they are also going to place John's name on the In Memoriam page on their site.
Next step: he asked if we wanted to sponsor a vet with his own dog or a rescue dog and I told him a rescue dog. I thought it would be better to know we had saved a dog and given it a forever home. He thinks he will have a rescue dog to pair with a vet in about 2 weeks. They will send us pictures of the dog and vet and we will be given updates so we can post all of it on our web site.
We are officially underway!
Not a bad way to celebrate our 11 month birthday.

Some great feedback

I recently moved Quantum Hugs' bank account to a different bank because they offered us a wonderful deal. It's a lovely little home town bank with a branch here in Fountain Hills and the people who work there are very nice. I'm now on a first name basis with just about everyone in there after going in only a handful of times.
Anyway, one of the managers waited on me on Friday and set up the acct. In the course of doing that, he asked what we did, I told him, gave him a new brochure I had just run off last week as a test run, gave him my 60 second pitch, etc and he seemed interested, told me he liked what we did.
I figured he was just making nice small talk.
Fast forward to yesterday. I couldn't get in online so I went back to the bank to see what was wrong. Again wound up with the same manager who solved the problem.
Then out of the blue he asked what were we working on right now in terms of fundraising and I told him about our meeting with Soldier's Best Friend this afternoon and also that we were making plans for our first biggie - the walk-a-thon in the Fall -one back east, maybe NJ, and also one here.
I also told him we wanted to establish a general fund of sorts so that we could help out at a moment's notice and I gave him the example of a family losing their home to a fire and losing everything including the family pets and maybe we could help with that by getting a dog for the children and supporting it for the first year with shots and food etc. "We can't make them whole but we can do something to make them better," I said.
Anyway, he got all excited and said he wanted to help and could he be on the committee for the fundraisers? He said he liked what we were doing and this kind of thing "really pulls at my heartstrings" [I swear he said that!].
Is that great or what!?
We're really on our way.
I cried all the way driving home. And I know my cousin hates it when I drive and cry but this time they were happy tears.
