I recently moved Quantum Hugs' bank account to a different bank because they offered us a wonderful deal. It's a lovely little home town bank with a branch here in Fountain Hills and the people who work there are very nice. I'm now on a first name basis with just about everyone in there after going in only a handful of times.
Anyway, one of the managers waited on me on Friday and set up the acct. In the course of doing that, he asked what we did, I told him, gave him a new brochure I had just run off last week as a test run, gave him my 60 second pitch, etc and he seemed interested, told me he liked what we did.
I figured he was just making nice small talk.
Fast forward to yesterday. I couldn't get in online so I went back to the bank to see what was wrong. Again wound up with the same manager who solved the problem.
Then out of the blue he asked what were we working on right now in terms of fundraising and I told him about our meeting with Soldier's Best Friend this afternoon and also that we were making plans for our first biggie - the walk-a-thon in the Fall -one back east, maybe NJ, and also one here.
I also told him we wanted to establish a general fund of sorts so that we could help out at a moment's notice and I gave him the example of a family losing their home to a fire and losing everything including the family pets and maybe we could help with that by getting a dog for the children and supporting it for the first year with shots and food etc. "We can't make them whole but we can do something to make them better," I said.
Anyway, he got all excited and said he wanted to help and could he be on the committee for the fundraisers? He said he liked what we were doing and this kind of thing "really pulls at my heartstrings" [I swear he said that!].
Is that great or what!?
We're really on our way.
I cried all the way driving home. And I know my cousin hates it when I drive and cry but this time they were happy tears.
